Carpobrotus edulis (Hottentot Fig) is a ground-creeper native to South Africa affectionately called Vygies by the locals. Hottentot Fig is also sometimes called the highway ice plant, the pigface, and the sour fig. This species is pollinated by honey bees, carpenter bees, and beetles.
Marguerite was inspired to capture the beauty of this indigenous flower growing throughout her neighbourhood in Cape Town, whist taking cuttings to grow in other areas of her garden.
