ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
After High School she enrolled at Rhodes University in Grahamstown (Makhanda) to read for a Bachelor of Fine Arts where she was exposed to a range of artistic disciplines and specialised in Graphic Design. During her time at Rhodes she also discovered a passion for Industrial Psychology. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Industrial Psychology (the only person at the time to graduate with that combination of majors), she went on to complete her Honours and Masters in Industrial Psychology as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education.
After graduation, Marguerite moved to Cape Town where she still lives with her husband and son. Throughout her adult life working in the corporate and academic world as well as running her own private practice, she has always continued to explore her creative side in all she does. During the COVID-19 Lockdown in South Africa, she made and donated over 100 beautiful hand crocheted blankets to 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day (South Africa), an organisation that encourages people across the world to knit or crochet blankets to keep needy people warm, in honour of Nelson Mandela.
In 2023, thanks to the encouragement of friends and family, she picked up her pencils (and other tools) and started putting her God-given talent to use again on a more formal level, by starting Marguerite’S Artisanal Hand-Crafts.
ARTIST STATEMENT :
I consider myself a Multi-Media Artist as I have studied and been exposed to a number of different Art forms over my career and constantly explore different materials and techniques. I have also always incorporated my love of Art and Design into every facet of my life both professionally and personally.
My work is organised into various Collections
Please take note of the following information:
All source material is from live viewing or original photos taken by myself.
The original 2D artwork is available for purchase as well as high quality prints (on archival paper) and cards of the original artwork.
Each crochet hand-craft is a one of a kind item as due to the nature of the craft, stitch tension and wool product will never be exactly the same. Similar items however are available to order.
Bespoke commissions based on existing works as well as entirely new concepts can also be requested.
Crocheted items don’t follow any patterns, but rather ‘speak to me’ and stitches are created accordingly to let the item grow organically. This often means unravelling work and redoing it until it ‘works’.
Crocheted blankets can be bought at a discounted rate (cost of materials) and donated to 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.
